The classic
Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 have now officially become an XBLA rumor as industry gossip
Surfer Girl has stated on her blog that the pair of titles will be gracing console downloadable services this year. The titles would make a great marketing tool for the release of
Grand Theft Auto 4, which is scheduled to be released sometime next year. Not to mention that the games themselves would practically print money on all three consoles. If you have not yet played either title
both titles are currently available as free PC downloads. This whole rumor has gotten me thinking not will you I these titles, but what should the achievements be? Hijack all car types? Run over 1000 innocents? What do you think is the perfect classic GTA series achievement?

Seeing as these are free for the PC, they should be a maximum of 400 points each.
Hell, If they really want to build some good will for the franchise, make them free for the xbox as well... But I think we all know how much MS hates free content on live.
I think I called for these games to come out on XBLA in a forum post here a long time ago.
I played GTA1 the week it came out. Single and gainfully employed, I was buying a PC or N64 game every week back then. I walked in to EB, and saw a game that promised to give me the ability to carjack any vehicle I saw, run from the police, or even shoot them. Wow, I'm in.
I bought that and have been addicted to GTA ever since. GTA was even one of the reasons I switched from being a Nintendo fanatic to an Xbox lover. My PC couldn't keep up with the series anymore, and the Xbox let me play the latest GTA without having to join the evil empire of Sony and buying a PS2.
How's that for a spontaneous rant? Long live GTA!!!

Achievement name: "drive safely"
description: "drive for <insert number> minutes without killing anyone"
this one would be difficult
Oddly enough, GTA2 is the only GTA game I've ever finished (only ever started playing 1, 2 and 3, haven't even tried Vice City or San Andreas). I really enjoyed the first two games, but while I can't deny that the third was one of the most influential video games of all time, and I remember being in awe of the sheer scale of it at the time it came out, the series hasn't really grown on me and I'm currently not even sure I'll pick up a copy of GTA4 when it eventually comes out.
But back on topic, as Measure pointed out, we have discussed bringing the first two games to XBLA before, and the thing that always crops up is the size of the games - they're way bigger than even the expanded XBLA size limit. Don't know how much of that is all the custom audio, but even if that was most of it, you could hardly cut it out, it wouldn't be GTA without the wacky radio stations.
Seeing as they were never released for the Xbox, they wouldn't be billed as Xbox Originals, but maybe they will be released in a similar fashion. Hopefully not for 1200 points, though. Considering the PC versions are free, Rockstar should probably try and keep the price point as low as possible.

Cutting sound to simulated steareo (aka mono across both channels for music and other such) coombined with generally imporved compression formats used on the 360 (and general lower resolution than PCs) and you can chop that to half or less rather easily. Think akin Castlevania SOTN.
Also, I believe the PC versions include an emulator as part of the coding so that would reduce the files even more.

Asking $5 for officially available free downloads is asking a bit much.

There are no official free versions of most classic arcade games (such as Pac-Man and Defender), but these are stright up complete and legal developer released copies of the game.
I might give in and buy Marathon: Durandal soon even though it is available free also, but that is because the PC version doesn't place nice with my current system at all. That and the massive number of points I have sitting around now.
Cool. But not a good thing to apply in real life.
Hay you could apply it in your real life but there should be some hard and fast rules in this aspect.
Good stuff can we use in traffic area also ?
