As a big slap to the face of gaming pundits everywhere XBLA throws more and more games at the apparent misconception that games aren't released in the summer time. Week after week the list of potential summer releases gets longer and longer. I say, bring it on. I'm ready. Well, actually that is patently false as I'm just now finishing up Mass Effect and have about 10 XBLA demos to catch up on. But more is always better, right? Right?!?
Before I go completely bonkers trying to play catch up, here's the latest achievement additions:
And yes, I realize I just made a seperate Geo Wars 2 achievement post. But don't you think it deserves it?
Pointless pontification after the break as per usual.

Apparently there was a massive explosion of XBLA achievements that I missed. Better late than never I hope. Since there are so many games to cover, I'll just get right to the list. Pointless commentary after the break.

[Update]: Fixed link to Coffeetime Crosswords. Also, added Soul Caliber which I somehow missed.
Since I've used the phrase "keep it simple, stupid" a bit too much this week I've decided to take my own advice and keep this simple. Golf: Tee It Up! has achievements and people know about them. Which people? Why our friendly tipster, Havocks for one.
In case you blocked this game from your memory, TeamXbox did a preview along with the screens we pointed out.
Nothing really out of the ordinary in the list (get a birdie, eagle, hole in one, etc.) but there are two secret achievements that have yet to be uncovered. Very mysterious, I know. Anyone giving up Golden Tee when this comes out?

'Tis the season for XBLA achievements. The Aces of the Galaxy achievements have also hit all the usual outlets so here's a link for those loath to use a search engine to find this kind of info.
No real surprises here. Most focus on finishing the game on normal or hard difficulty solo or in co-op. You've even got the obligatory "beat the game without dying" achievement common in shooters. Perhaps they lack originality, but will it matter much either way if the gameplay delivers?

The achievement uncovering folks over at 360sync have struck again with the unveiling of the achievements for Wits & Wagers and Buku Sodoku. Both sport a painfully long achievement (answer 700 questions and play 200 games) and the rest are pretty much what you would expect from the game. If you were designing these achievements what would you change? What would you keep the same?
MyGamerCard reveals the complete list of achievements for the upcoming XBLA title Ikaruga.
11 of the 12 achievements in the game are the standard for a shoot-em-up title (to be honest, they could have been more original about them), with 5 achievements awarded when you beat each of the game's bosses (10-15G each), 5 for getting a good score on each stage (20G each) and the last 2 awarded when you beat the game without continues (15G) and the other when you finish a stage without shooting (10G).

The release of the Poker Smash achievements come on the heels of Void Star Creations confirmation of the game's release for next week. But look at what else we have here -- a bevy of unreleased games with achievements. Could these be indications of their impending releases? Just ignore the whole Discs of Tron debacle and work with me here. Okay, fine. Don't. Don't get needlessly excited for games that won't see the light of day for who knows how long. Be a party pooper.
The rest of us (those who dream big dreams and are filled with everlasting hope) will be hanging out after the break, checking out all the achievement details. But you're not invited anymore. So there. You don't get to hear about Triggerheart Exelica, Commanders: Attack!, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, Poker Smash, or N+. I don't mention War World though...I'm afraid to jinx it.

We all know that the release of achievements doesn't automatically translate into a game's imminent arrival. However, with a game as popular as Metal Slug 3, it's hard to avoid a wee bit of excitement. We got another one. Switchball has been added to the achievement list over at x360a.org.
The achievements are very straightforward. Get some points for completing each world, for getting medals, and for winning multiplayer races. The one that catches my eye is called Spyglass and it requires you to find 3 hidden paths. That's the kind of stuff I love finding on my own. And if this game has anywhere near the replay value that Marble Blast Ultra does, I'll be playing this one for a long time to come.
The release of the achievements is another good sign that this game is close. Since the PC version was just released, anyone ready to guess when this one will finally arrive on XBLA?

Achievements have hit the tubes for the following games (as if you didn't read the headline): Word Puzzle, Every Extend Extra Extreme (affectionately referred to as E4), and Mutant Storm Empire.
Did I just die and go to heaven? No, not quite. These games aren't coming out quite yet, just exposing themselves a bit.
But seriously, E4 and Mutant Storm Empire?! I might pass out just from the mere possibility of those games coming out on the same day. I even have points burning a hole in my digital wallet.
Oh well, guess I'll have to settle for Puzzle Quest.
(Poor Word Puzzle just got beat down by some XBLA juggernauts.)
Direct links (with highlights):
Word Puzzle (Decent variety, if pedestrian)
Every Extend Extra Extreme (Try earning 15 trillion points -- Yes, trillion.)
Mutant Storm Empire (The return of the Black Belt Grandmaster...but only 16 levels?)
