I'm a pretty big GTA fan. Have been since the first time I was standing in the game store and saw the original game sitting on the new releases shelf. I can buy this and jack cars and run from cops? sweet.

Anyway, I was on my way to work today and saw someone had the GTA IV avatar as their bumper sticker. I was thinking about XBLA and thought...

How cool would it be if they released GTA and GTA2 on the XBLA? I know these are already freeware, or at least used to be offered for free from rockstar's site.... but It would be cool to get an acheivement for say, running over an entire line of joggers in one shot...

EDIT: Found the link to the Rockstar Classics collection.

While I'd love to be able to play them on XBLA, I don't think it's going to happen. Their is no way that anyone at Rockstar has the extra time to be working on this, and I just can't see them letting anyone else work on it.\

Hmm... maybe that's part of the 50 million they paid rockstar... exclusive classic gta games on xbla? And Tomacco you know rockstar has multiple dev houses that are huge. All of the houses have big games they are working on now... excdept rockstar toronto not sure what they'ld be working on.

I don't think it would be much trouble to get them running on the 360, it's so much more powerful than the PCs of the time I'm sure a simple emulator would do the trick. How much work do you think it took to get Doom running on a 360? It might be a bit of effort getting online multiplayer to work, but I'm sure they could outsource that kind of thing.

I think a bigger problem may be the size of the games. I see the free download of GTA is 328MB and GTA2 is 353MB, which mean they would have to be chopped down quite a lot to even get to the new expanded size limits.

Hmm. I hadn't taken a look at the download sizes there. However, Both GTA1 and 2 were made of multiple maps, at least 3 per game, some of which could be dropped if needed to fit the size requirements, with DLC being a way to bring them back.

If I recall correctly, both of these games also had at least one expansion pack, for more DLC possibilities.

I was actually playing with programming a top down car driving game in the vein of the old gtas. I have a small demo with a car driving actually. I may have to tap you Measure to try it out and tell me what you think of the feel of the controls if I decide to continue with it some day.
