Why is Microsoft making a big deal about comic-con?

Could it possibly be a surprise annoucement about Sam & Max hitting XBLA?

I doubt it... but this article got me thinking...

Who knows. Maybe it has nothing to do with video games and Xbox Live is just becoming the next G4.

So comic con was pretty cool. I only saw/played 3 xbla games there though. Quick thoughts:

- Castle Crashers: Amazing game. Really fun and awesome graphics. The developers were a lot of fun to talk to as well. Please get this game out soon.

- Puzzle Fighter: Really good update. I never played the original so I had a lot of fun with this game. Can't wait for this to come out

- Rocketmen: Another fun game. Really this and Castle Crashers seemed to have a "step up" in the graphics department as compared to current games. Makes me excited for the future of xbla.

- Gotta give a big frown to Konami, Foundation 9 and Sierra. None had xbla games shown when I was there. Actually the dude at Sierra thought Geometry Wars Galaxies was xbla and I had to correct him. The other dude knew his head from his a** and told me they didn't have any xbla games to show.

Wait a second... the rep said that GWG was XBLA bound? Maybe it is coming to XBLA also and it just hasn't been announced yet? Perhaps he told you something you weren't supposed to know.

It's good to hear Rocketmen was good as I wasn't too sure about that title. CC looked solid as always (at least from the videos)

No Geo Wars Galaxies was running on a Wii and the guy who knew what he was talking about didn't say anything about it for xbla. IMHO Geo Wars Galaxies was pretty cool but the lower resolution is very noticable. It actually annoyed me a bit oddly enough.

Its possible they said something they shouldn't have to me... that guy didn't seem totally with it honestly.

Considering how publicized the release of GWG has been for Wii and DS the guy most likely has no idea of the difference in download game services. Reps tend to do things like that, even more so at conventions.

As far as making a big deal of Comic-Con in general it is a group of people with highly disposable income and willing to buy collectors items and also play games. With more and more board games coming to the video game market the gamers and the convention attendees are more and more often the same people.

That and if XBL gets you the coverage of an event they can highlight all the things related to the 360 be it spin off comics or comics which will become games later. It is a good way to hype things while letting someone else do the actual work and completely ignoring the competition.
