At 1am PST this morning (That's 4am for those of us on the east cost), Microsoft released the third title of their XBLA Wednesday promotion, Galaga. At just over 15 MB, the 1981 arcade classic comes with "...over 250 levels, full worldwide leader boards , unique Dual Fighter combination attack mode, all with the original music and sound effects."
For those of you who remember and love this game, make sure you check at least download the demo. For those of you who expect a certain amount of "extra" put into their arcade classics, go back to playing Frogger, as this is simply a very bare bones emulated version. There is no online play, no updated sprites, and even the achievements are lackluster. Achievements are only unlocked after your game is over, which isn't all that big of a deal because chances are you'll have them all within about an hour.
Lucky for me, I'm a huge Galaga fan.

I gotta say I was pretty disappointed with Frogger. I'll definately try the Demo first on this one, but I do like Galaga, so maybe I'll get it.
Man, I thought I was good at Galaga. I suck so far! I guess that, with practice (like in Frogger), I'll get all the achievements.
Yeah this one is a demo for me as well, i LOVE frogger though. The co-op achievement is ridiculous because even if you can make it to your 15k mark you're buddy has to too.

lol, yup that's why klutch won't play co-op with me :)
Hey hey, I'll help you out with that! :-)
It's easy, as long as YOU survive long enough. ;-)

Oh, nevermind. I guess all it took was a good night's sleep. I booted it up today and pwned every single achievement in about 15 minutes! Man, if only MS would release these games a couple hours earlier...
I know, I know. Then it would be XBLA Tuesdays, and that doesn't make any sense.
Wow, I am tied for 1st at the moment for XBLA!

the whole top 360 tag rankings thing (or any other site) is gonna become really pointless and stupid if they don't start releasing some games with hard achievements. seriously, the real difference makers are mostly the crappy midway games and bejeweled. i want more games like zuma, astropop, and mutant storm where you actually have to put some time into the game to go 12 for 12. no tricks...no workarounds...no glitches...just plain awesomeness.
I'm with ya, Trent. I want more Blackbelt Grandmasters, Co - Op Masters, Lv. 3 Master's, GAMMA Survivor's, Brick Grinders, Wave 100's, etc. I've finished the last 3 games in practically one day. Most of the achievements take time, I want more that take skill... or else in the end, it'll be all about who has the most in Bejeweled 2, Zuma, Smash TV, and who actually got the Blackbelt Grandmaster.
Hopefully Street Fighter II's 7 Stars, Hyper World Champion, and Perfect World Champion are difficult... or else that'll be done quick as well.
I hope they fix Smash TV's 'Game Master'....
well, i'd be fine without the wave 100s personally
Well for me, Joust Wave 100 is a possibility...
But get out of here with Robotron ;-)

I didn't realize that they finally fixed the Joust 100 wave achievment. It was glitched for the longest time.
Get to lvl 30 and they let you start at any level you've been at before... sad considering there are ~250 levels.
i think i have a better chance at robotron wave 30 than joust wave 30...joust seems easier, but the game just sucks so bad that i have trouble forcing my self to play it. maybe i'll just try to get good enough for the co-op level 20 achievement.
Wait, so once you get to level 30, you can go the rest of the way 1 level at a time? Does that go for both Joust and Robotron? I never knew that.
That makes the Wave 100 achievements seem much less impossible. Not that it matters much, as I can barely pass wave 10 in either game. Neither one really inspires that kind of effort like Mutant Storm Reloaded does.
Hexx, I knew you could revisit levels in galaga but you can in joust as long as you reach lvl 30. Am I understanding this correctly?
