I've also been reading about Castle getting an XBLA release, which would be cool. Cave shooters as well. :) As much as I want to snatch these up as soon as they are released, I'm hoping they are spaced reasonably apart so as to not flood the market. I'd be happy with one solid shooter a month. :)
Well it really depends if you like this kind of games or not. I find Shoot´em ups really addictive, and still play and enjoy classic old-school shooting games like R-Type & Gradius and also a lot of the more modern Shoot´em ups Castle Shikigami, Mars Matrix, GigaWing etc..
As a XBLA- and Shmup-Addict I simply can´t get enough of these Games.
So to answer your question: If you like Shmups todays Cave-Announcements are really something to get exited about. If not..welll

My number 1 shmup request on XBLA would be Gradius V. That game is the perfect blend of old- and new-school, as far as I'm concerned. Bullet hell games are pretty fun, but I've always been a huge fan of Gradius. Part V's level and boss designs are unrivaled. I still love playing the asteroids level (4? it's been a while), and trying my best to navigate through the green ooze level without dying. Watching no-miss runs of Gradius V never gets old. If it comes out for XBLA it better have downloadable replays like Omega Five and Rez. That is all. :)
Castle Shikigami III is a retail title. You can check the achievements here: Achieve360points
it is already available in Japan
About the Cave shmups, they're among the hardest games ever made (search on youtube for muchihimesama's final boss to know what I mean), so I'm not sure if I'm very fond of the idea.
I´ve only played the Original Gradius & Salamander on the PCE and didn´t have the chance to play Gradius V yet, but I´ve seen some Youtube Vids & it looks really amazing. But as it was a DVD-sized Game I really doubt we´ll see it on XBLA. I would be already happy with the usual Konami "Retro-Ports" of Games like Gradius or Parodius, but Konami seems more interested in putting stuff like "Coffe Time Crosswords" or "Frogger 2" on the Arcade
Either way it would be nice to see Castle Shikigami 3 on XBLA outside of Japan, but I´m not getting my hopes up..
The original source of the Cave stories stated that these are RETAIL titles for Japan. I'm not sure what the Famitsu story is reporting, but I'm guessing they are saying the same thing. It'll be interesting to see if they find a release outside of Japan; although, I would think they could sell at least as many here as over there.
Now that I think of it, I guess there's sort of a precedent for releasing a game at retail and downloadable. Tomb Raider Anniversary did it, and had two different prices and two different sets of achievements.
Still, I'm sure the Shikigami 3 rumors are based on false assumptions (a shmup, must be an xbla game) and wishful thinking. It's not the first time people have made that mistake.

But the Cave shooters is retail, right?
Awesome news anyway.
If you search castle shikigami 3 on gamespot.com, it is listed as a xbla release.
The Cave games are probably going to be full retail in Japan. I hope can come come to american, on xbla or full retail. Probably wont fit into 150MB.
