Street Fighter Patched!

It seems that all the complaints have not been in vain. Major Nelson has posted the following:

There is an auto update now available for 'Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting.' Xbox Live users will be automatically prompted to accept this auto update the next time they sign in to Xbox Live with SF:II. When I asked what the update does, I got this from the marketing team:

The title update will address connection and time out issues that have been reported by players. In addition, the Leaderboards will be cleared in order to offset players that have cheated by causing intentional disconnections.

While these issues shouldn't have made it into the final game, it's great to see that the Microsoft and Capcom are serious about fixing these issues. It does however bring up an interesting question: Should games be re-reviewed if they were scored lower based on something that gets fixed in an update?

Good Point

Good point on whether patched games should be re-reviewed. I know the patch\enhancement to Bankshot Billiards 2, which added 3-D view, definitely improved the gameplay for me.

Yeah, but...

I don't think any game deserves a re-review after something is fixed. If Capcom didn't catch this in the initial development process, that's their problem. And don't tell me, "Yeah, but at least they're fixing it!" because the only reason they're fixing is because we all bitch and moan, knowing it'll cause them to do something. They wouldn't see any need to fix it if no one said anything. They would just as soon assume we all loved their problem-free product.

If you ask me, this whole "patching" ability causes developers to half-ass products and hope we don't notice. A very bad trend that seems to have caught on. That's my ten dollars and two cents.

Yeah, but before the
Yeah, but before the patching ability, a broken game just stayed broken forever. That was even worse.
Sure, but...
Sometimes the patch elevates the game so much that it deserves reconsideration. I take your (pmpboarder) point though, everybody wants the finished article on purchase.
