i'm definitely buying the 1200 point game, but i don't know about the 600 point extras. i guess this means that contra should be out next week.

Looks like I'll be downloading both pieces of the game tomorrow. If I recall correctly, it's a full buck cheaper than the last set of rumors about the price of all the content.

Well, I was going to buy it this morning, but I couldn't log onto live, despite assurances from Major Nelson's blog that everything was back up.

 

I'll try again tonight. Oh, hey, looks like the optional pack thingie won't be available at launch. that saves me some points for a bit.

yeah I wasn't able to connect earlier either, but I just tried again and it worked.

have you guys heard the recent details about this? it's not 1 extra pack, it's 3, and these 2 other ones aren't really expansions, they are part of the core game that have been stripped out. basically, the base pack is 1200 ($15), the advance pack which features skins and music videos is 600 ($7.50), and then there are these other 2. the vs cpu pack is 300 points ($3.75) and the mission/puzzle pack is 400 ($5). the vs. cpu mode in the 1200 point base pack only features 1 level and then it asks you to buy the vs. cpu pack. the mission and puzzle modes in the 1200 point base pack each feature 5 levels and then ask you to buy the remaining 40+ levels in the mission/puzzle pack. final value = 2500 ms points = $31.25 US Dollars. this is just crazy. imagine what they will do with castlevania sotn.

Trent, those rumors are a bit old. It looks like all of those features have been rolled into the main game or the single expansion pack.

 

Not as crazy as it was rumored to be at first.

Will I get this? Are you kidding? FINALLY, a non "Retro" release!!!! I couldn't be happier! I'll be HAPPILY downloading the entire thing as soon as I get home.

On another note, it appears that the XBox forums are not up? Anyone know anything about this?

OH, man, 8 o'clock last night and I still wasn't connecting to live (West coast time). Finally I connected but couldn't download Lumines (though MS happily took my points!) and just before 9 I re-tried and was finally able to dowload the game.

 

Because of that, I was only able to play for 20 minutes or so last night, or about three games of the basic (Challenge?) mode of the game. The first time I died on the first level, the second time I made it to level 2, and the third time I made it to level 3.

Quite disconcerting when the textures and sounds change. an interesting mental challenge to apply the same rules to a game board that suddently looks and sounds completely different.

But, It looks like I'm picking it up fast. Maybe after I unlock a few more skins I'll give Live play a spin.

 

 

Glad to see your liking it Measure, personally I'm still fighting the thought process around it not being Tetris. I can't tell you the number of times I was confused that the blocks wouldn't disappear when I got four in a row. Yeah, yeah I know, let the mocking begin :)

Are some of the rumors Trent mentioned true after all? I saw one site today that said this game only has 5 puzzle levels, and 10 vs. CPU levels, and after you complete those you get a message saying more will be available for download?

Yeah, it's all true. Not sure about the prices, though.

Basically, Puzzle, Mission, and Vs CPU modes are all demo versions. (You only get 1 Vs CPU level, there are 10 total if you buy the extra pack).

But still, for $15 you get complete Challenge/Skin Edit modes, Time Attack, and local and online multiplayer. Unless you consider Challenge incomplete since it only comes with about 1/3 of the available skins. But still, the game is really fun.

I can't decide whether or not to feel ripped off.
