Rumor Roundup

This weeks Rumor Roundup will be a little bit different than the other's as I'm going to comment on the pricing/release date leak first.

360 Gamer leaked a whack of release dates and prices for xbla titles

Rumor: Read all about it here.

Our take: Well along with my comments from before about the matter, I'd just like to add two things:

1) Print Magazines often have to have there magazines completely finished sometimes months before they hit the news stands. Looking at this list, it very well could have been Microsoft's Plan from a month or two ago (ie before the full understanding of the Street Fighter net-code issues were known)

2) When the scan was presented to Steve Taylor over at the Ninja Bee forums, his response was: "I think June/July are both possible at this point". Not exactly what I would call a ringing endorsement for the list being more than a best guess.

Rare will be bringing Jetpac to XBLA

Rumor:Many different sites are listing "inside" sources as saying Jetpac will be Rare's first title to reach XBLA.

Our take: It looks like Xbox Evolved was the first to list "inside" sources followed a couple days later by Eurogamer. The funny part of this story, is that if I didn't know better, I'd say the inside source told us all about a month earlier about this story here:

Dear Scribes,
You know what you guys made me realize? Right, I thought you guys were pretty sweet back when I first played Battletoads. That game rocked. And, you know, toads, nay, toads who can punch things in succession with other things; that always has potential to rock the Casbah, perhaps Casbahs. But it was only Xbox Threesiddy time, when booting up one of the machines with PDZ in the drive, did I realize my love for you (not sexually, well not right now, at least) transcends the very time I knew of your work.
Plainly, the first game I ever played, and therefore by extension, best game I ever played, was Jetpac. In other words, it was your damn little white space man with his exquisitely arranged rocket pieces of pure, unadulterated delight that, in essence, turned me into a dork. I hope you are happy. No, seriously, I do.
As penance, however, I request, nay demand you release a sexy hi-definition remake and put it onto XBLA forthwith! C'mon, you've released themes, gamer pictures, and the guy straight out mocks me with his shiny Rare logo every time I put in PDZ. You owe me. I think? I forget how threats and stuff work.
Just make it, it'll be awesome. You know it will.
Miller

Rare Reply:
Jetpac was one of the first games I ever played as well. Probably after Manic Miner, but before Durell's Scuba Dive. We're like brothers, man. I'd buy a shiny Live Arcade remake as well, though that's no guarantee it'll ever happen... or will it? Or will it? The great thing about Scribes and its scurrilous reputation is that I could tell you such a game is in the works as we speak, and nobody would have any idea whether I was telling the truth or lying. It's actually Knight Lore Live! No, not really. It's 16-player competitive Pssst!

My opinion: I would say that

My opinion: I would say that this is pretty much a 'best guess'. Here are a few facts:

- During the Xbox Down Under in April, the 'XBLA Man', who I think his name is Greg Canessa, said that Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting and Cloning Clyde were definitely the next two arcade titles to be released "within the coming weeks". Uno was actually the next one released.

- Capcom has not confirmed a price, or a release date, according to IGN.

- The print in OXM is actually an exact replica of the 'Prime Time Calendar' on Xbox.com. Not an exact release date of any game, but 'Prime Time' for Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting would be June 10th, and Ultimate: Mortal Kombat 3 would be June 15th. They also have Texas Hold 'Em Poker for July 10th.

- Pac - Man, Galaga, and Frogger were all confirmed by Greg Canessa during E3, to release this month.

- They expect, or at least this is what they said, to release over 30 more Arcade titles by the end of the year, which would be.. starting from today - 5 Arcade games a month - When we haven't seen only but one, in the past 2 1/2 months.

As a consumer, I am aggravated. They are making promises, and aren't delivering.

I look forward to Major Nelson's 'blogcast', he is interviewing someone in the XBLA team to see what's up.
