Our ratings coverage has been dominated by a backyard brawl between the plucky German USK and the juggernaut American ESRB. Well, another challenger has entered the ring: The Australian Classifications Board. Maybe that name lacks a certain sex appeal (especially compared to their former title as The Office of Film and Literature Classification) but the ACB perseveres on raw power.
Over the past month they have slowly leaked a nice list of recently rated but still unreleased XBLA titles. Many of them are even unannounced which makes things even more exciting. Below, they are presented in an attractive list format for your reading enjoyment. If you want to know more, you will be forced to click the Read More button. That's just how I roll.
"Old News" Ratings:
Rocky and Bulwinkle
Shred Nebula
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
Brain Challenge
Rez HD
"Shhhh, It's a secret" Ratings:
Frogger 2
Coffeetime Cross Words
Assault Heroes 2
TiQal
Shotest Shogi
Now technically some of those unannounced games could skip XBLA entirely or even be full retail releases. So, keep your expectations in check while you get some idea of the games after the break. But while you're doing that, let me know if the Aussies have gotten you excited at all.
[via the ACB, thanks to all for the tips!]
Since we've already covered all the games listed in the "Old News" category, let's skip to the good stuff.
First, Assault Heroes 2. A sequel to Assault Heroes? If this proves true, expect more blasting, more bosses, and hopefully improved netcode from day 1.
Second, Frogger 2. Another sequel but this one should please the retro fanatics. I guess X360F beat me to this one using the stalwart ESRB. Published by Konami and developed by Voltex.
Third, Shotest Shogi. Shogi, commonly referenced in the west as "Japanese Chess", offers serious players a serious challenge. Seriously. Apparently shogi has even more complex gameplay than chess. And since this game's development is being handled by AI Factory, solid AI competition is expected. Their shogi AI is currently ranked #7 in the world.
Fourth, TiQal. TiQal was already distributed through RealArcade in beta form apparently. It appears to be a Zuma-styled Tetris/Lumines mashup. This game is developed by Slapdash Games, but I don't know much as their website is naught but a splash screen. Could this be the beginning of the RealArcade onslaught?
Finally, Coffeetime Cross Words. I imagine this will be a casual-friendly crossword game. Think easy clues and small boards that you can finish while you finish a cup or two of coffee. This one will be published by Konami and developed by Voltex as well (a good indication of XBLA future) but no true confirmation of platform yet.

Assault Heroes 2 would be nice, but did they ever get around to fixing the MP from the 1st game?
Frogger 2...meh. The only way they could make me consider it is if it goes the Pac-Man C.E. route.
The other three I don't have much to say on, I guess...

Assault heroes 2? YES!
I hope they add 4 player co-op or something, that would be the tops.

TiQal sounds like it could be interesting.
I'm glad to hear about Assault Heroes 2. If it's even better than the first that would be sweet.
