Wing Commander on the Arcade?
Silconerca has [url=http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2007/02/21/wing-commander-revived-on-the-360/]noticed that the ESRB has rated Wing Commander Arena for Xbox 360[/url]. Fans of the series will quickly notice that there was never a Wing Commander Arena game released for any system, so what exactly is this game. Is it even an XBLA game? [url=http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/02/21/wing-commander-coming-to-360/#comments]Xbox 360 Fanboy[/url] points out that if this is a retail title and it is coming from EA there probably would have been at least some press by now if it was this far done to have been able to be rated by the ESRB already. A new Wing Commander (or a port) hasn't been released for some time now (1998); although, there have been several cancelled titles that were in development during the earlier portion of this decade. Either way there should be a good [url=http://www.xblarcade.info/taxonomy/term/74]Battlestar Galactica XBLA[/url] vs Wing Commander Arena argument when they are both released (hopefully) sometime this year.

sweet, its been a long time coming. Freelancer was made by a few of the same major people but not the same series, but was still another great game.

Maybe. I didn't know Sylpheed had a date. I still haven't heard a darn thing about it except for that "by the way" comment on IGN a couple weeks ago.
But hey, for all we know they could release this Wing Commander game next week (that's likely, right?). But I guess BSG is targetting Fall, so we'll probably see that one in 2009.
Neat coincidence - I just bought the original Wing Commander off e-bay. :)
I love space shooters (and space trading games, such as the X-series), but until we hear more about this, I will remain somewhat sceptic. What made the original Wing Commander so great was, for me at least, the non-linear story and campaign, and the feeling that you were part of something huge, and actually mattered. The atmosphere was also important (conversations with other pilots between missions, et.c.).
Wing Commander Arena - well, "Arena" makes it sound like a space shooter without the story. Just plain old shooting (possibly multiplayer-focused). If they get the gameplay right, it could be great.... but not the Wing Commander sequel I wish for.
I suppose this could be a sign that EA wants to revive the series. Fingers crossed... :)
