"According to Electronic Gaming Monthly, the game allows players to take on the roles of either Rorschach or Nite Owl II in singleplayer or cooperative multiplayer. Rorschach and Nite Owl are the only playable characters in the game's first episode, which comprises six "chapters." Cutscenes that look like animated comic panels, similar to those seen in the Watchmen motion comics released on iTunes, bookend each chapter. Two of the film's actors, Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earl Haley, provide their voices for their characters Nite Owl and Rorschach, respectively. The game features a mix of beat-em-up and puzzle gameplay, with the two characters having different strengths and abilities. Rorschach is faster but weaker and makes use of improvised weapons like crowbars and chairs; Nite Owl is slower but stronger and uses technological abilities, such as "screecher bombs." The characters must work cooperatively to pass puzzles and defeat enemies.

The game is set in the 1970s during the Crimebusters era, but little else about the plot is known. The first chapter of the game is a tutorial taking place while Rorschach and Nite Owl infiltrate a prison for unknown reasons. Underboss/The Big Figure, a minor villain Rorschach and Nite Owl mention in the comic book as having been defeated by the pair in the past, appears in the game, as do other adversaries who are only mentioned or briefly shown in flashbacks in the original comic. Nite Owl's flying craft, Archimedes, appears in the game, but it is unknown if the player has control of the vehicle during the game.

An article on Comicmix.com emphasizes the game's focus on teamwork between the two characters: in single-player mode, the AI controls the other character aside from the main character, while the game can be played in Local Co-op with two players as both characters. The article also mentions there will be no online Co-op mode."

I really hope episodic games become the norm. They might be a little short in lengh, but the developers have to try really hard to keep you hooked, so their next installment will sell well also. Wallace and gromit is coming, and so is this apparently. I can't wait to try the trial. Oh, and of course to see the movie ;-)

At first glance I thought it

At first glance I thought it was retail!

This is going to be one of the best looking XBLA games, that's for sure.

I think it looks pretty

I think it looks pretty terrible. I'm not a Watchman fan, in fact I barely know what it is, to be honest. So to me he (Watchman?) just looks like a cheap Batman-clone (which, I guess, is obviously not true, but since I don't know better so...).

However, I love episode gaming. So I'll definitive keep an eye open for this, but as of now I think it just looks like a crappy brawler (which isn't very accordance to the original comic, or so I heard).

The release date is march

The release date is march 4th for XBLA, and the day following for the PSNetwork. But I find it weird that they don't promote it as an episodic game.

Watchmen coming soon!

I should have something up about this later tonight or early tomorrow. A release date has been issued and the game is going to be episodic. Each episode will feature two Watchmen from the DC Comics from before the film. More details to follow.

Watchmen is a twelve-issue

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The series was published by DC Comics during 1986 and 1987, and has been subsequently reprinted into a collected graphic novel. Watchmen originated from a story proposal Moore submitted to DC featuring superhero characters that the company had acquired from Charlton Comics. As Moore's proposed story would have left many of the characters unusable for future stories, managing editor Dick Giordano convinced the writer to create original characters instead.

Moore used the story as a means to reflect contemporary anxieties and to critique the superhero concept. Watchmen takes place on an alternate history Earth where superheroes emerged in the 1940s and 1960s, helping the United States to win the Vietnam War. The country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, freelance costumed vigilantes have been outlawed and most costumed superheroes are in retirement or working for the government. The story focuses on the personal development and struggles of the protagonists as an investigation into the murder of a government sponsored superhero pulls them out of retirement and eventually leads them to confront a plot to stave off nuclear war by killing millions of people.
